Frequently Asked Questions

Getting Started

How do I enable location access?

Go to Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → PurrPilot and select "While Using the App". PurrPilot needs location access to find stops along your route and calculate distances.

How do I create a pet profile?

Tap the pet profiles section in the app to add a new profile. You can add your cat's name, photo, and any special needs (e.g., medication schedules, anxiety, dietary requirements). Pet profiles help PurrPilot suggest appropriate stop intervals for your trip.

Can I add multiple pets?

Yes! You can create profiles for all of your cats. PurrPilot will consider the needs of all your pets when suggesting stop intervals and types of stops along your route.

Trip Planning

How do I adjust stop intervals?

When planning a trip, you can customize how often PurrPilot suggests stops. Choose from presets or set a custom interval. PurrPilot can also adapt intervals based on your pet profiles and their specific needs.

Can I filter which types of stops are shown?

Yes. You can filter stops by type — veterinary clinics, pet stores, fuel stations, rest areas, and more. Use the filter settings when planning your trip to show only the stop types you need.

Why aren't stops showing on my route?

Make sure you have an active internet connection. PurrPilot searches for nearby pet-friendly locations along your calculated route. If stops still don't appear, try adjusting your stop interval or expanding your filter settings to include more stop types.

How do I save a stop to my favorites?

Tap any stop on the map or in the list to view its details, then tap the heart/favorite icon to save it. Your favorites are stored locally on your device and accessible from the favorites section for quick access on future trips.

Where can I find my trip history?

Trip history is automatically saved after each trip. Access it from the trip history section in the app. You can review past routes, stops visited, and re-use previous trips as starting points for new journeys.

How does multi-day trip planning work?

Multi-day trip planning splits a long route into manageable driving days, suggesting where to break each day and showing pet-friendly stops along the way. It also includes a per-trip cost estimate so you can plan ahead.

Can PurrPilot estimate my trip cost?

Yes. PurrPilot estimates fuel cost in the route comparison view. For multi-day trips, it shows a fuller breakdown that also factors in an estimated nightly accommodation rate for planning purposes.

How do I share a trip?

Open a trip and tap the share option to generate a text summary of your route and stops, then send it via Messages, Mail, or any app in the share sheet.

Navigation

How do I navigate to a stop?

Tap any stop on the map or in the list, then choose to open directions in either Apple Maps or Google Maps. PurrPilot supports both mapping services for turn-by-turn navigation.

What's the difference between using Google Maps and Apple Maps?

PurrPilot supports dual-map navigation. You can choose whichever map service you prefer for turn-by-turn directions. Route planning within PurrPilot uses Apple MapKit, but navigation to individual stops can be opened in either Apple Maps or Google Maps.

Does PurrPilot work with CarPlay?

Yes. You can browse your saved trips and pet-friendly stops on the CarPlay screen so you can glance at what's coming up. CarPlay shows stop information only — it does not display maps or provide turn-by-turn directions. For navigation, hand off to Apple Maps or Google Maps on your iPhone.

Is there an Apple Watch app?

Yes. The PurrPilot Apple Watch companion shows your trip summary, the next stop, and your stop list on your wrist, kept in sync with your iPhone.

Can I use Siri with PurrPilot?

Yes. PurrPilot includes Siri Shortcuts such as "Plan Trip" and "Find Stops." You can run them by voice or add them to the Shortcuts app.

Community Ratings & Annotations

How do I rate a stop?

After visiting a stop, tap on it to open its details and use the rating option to share your experience. You can add a star rating, write notes about the stop, and mark it as report it as pet-friendly. Your ratings help other PurrPilot users find the best stops.

Can I add photos to a stop?

Yes. Open a stop's details and add a photo to help other travelers see what to expect. Photos sync anonymously via Apple CloudKit and are shared with the community. Please only upload photos you have the right to share.

What does "reported pet-friendly" mean?

"Reported pet-friendly" is a community count, not a verification by PurrPilot. When users visit a stop and confirm it is welcoming to pets, they can mark it as verified. This badge is based on user experiences and is not independently verified by PurrPilot. Always call ahead to confirm pet policies.

How do I report inappropriate content?

If you encounter a rating, note, or badge that contains false information, spam, or offensive content, please report it to support@purrpilot.com with details about the stop and the issue. We review all reports and will remove content that violates our Community Guidelines.

Data & Sync

Does PurrPilot work offline?

Most features — searching for stops, loading maps, and community data — require an internet connection. Offline Trip Mode saves a planned trip (route, stops, and a map snapshot) to your device. Your pet profiles, favorites, and trip history are stored on-device and remain available offline.

How does CloudKit sync work?

Community ratings, notes, pet-friendly reports, and stop photos are synced via Apple CloudKit. Your contributions are associated with an anonymous identifier — PurrPilot cannot see your Apple ID or personal information. This allows the community to share stop information while maintaining your privacy.

Community ratings aren't loading. What should I do?

Ensure you have an active internet connection and that iCloud is enabled on your device (Settings → [Your Name] → iCloud). Community data syncs through Apple CloudKit, which requires iCloud to be active. Try closing and reopening the app if the issue persists.

How do I delete my data?

Local data (pet profiles, favorites, trip history) can be deleted within the app or by uninstalling it. Community contributions (ratings, notes, badges, and photos) can be deleted from within the app — open the stop, then delete your review or your photo. They are stored in Apple CloudKit and persist even after you uninstall, because they are shared with other users, so delete them before uninstalling if you want them removed. You can also email support@purrpilot.com and we will remove them for you.

🔒 Your Privacy: PurrPilot does not require an account. Pet profiles, favorites, and trip history are stored locally on your device. Community ratings and stop photos sync anonymously via Apple CloudKit. We do not use analytics, advertising, or third-party trackers. For more details, see our Privacy Policy.
